Make the call to head out even with a Small Craft Advisory. Only because the winds were out of the west and the offshore buoy showed a 11 second wave seperation... Took my oldest son Gary and his girl friend Pam out today. We hit the SLI around 6:45am to flat calm seas.
Not much of a sunrise pic for you all today...
We loaded up on bait in short order at Bullshark. Sardines, cigar minnows and baby blue runners...
We caught quite a few Black Sea Bass at Bullshark this morning on Sabikis... Gary even had a double header... Water temp in here was 71 degrees...
This one was only 1/4" shy of a keeper...
The plan was to just cruise the beaches for Cobia, but the seas were to nice to not make a run out... Heres the wave action in 100ft... We make a drift in shallow but had no takers... Immediatey got a hit here in 100ft but was gone... Reeled in an empty hook...
No other bites in 100ft so we continue eastward... Winds and waves picked up a bit, but still fishable... Made our wave out to 220ft and made a drift along some scattered weeds with no bites... Water temp here was 72 degrees.
Decided to make the run in to my AJ spot to put Pam on her first AJ...
It didn't take long...
Check out this video...

Garys turn... He hooks up on the next drift on a monster AJ. He fought this one for about 20 minutes before the braided line catch the trim tab and cut off...
Now its Pams turn again... This one cut through the leader above my short pc of wire...
Next drift produced a shark for Gary while reeling in his line for run back up for another drift...
Next drift Gary small fish turned into a monster shark... We all took turns fighting this fish before the leader broke above the wire. This fish felt well over 200lbs easy...
Had this guy follows us during the whole fight with the shark...
When Gary first hooked this shark the winds were starting to pick up...
By now its really getting nasty out so we made the long track back to the inlet... Its was rough and wet... We could only manage about 6-8 mph until about 2 miles offshore... Pam was a trooper and didn't mind the mid afternoon bath...

Thanks for the post and your pictures always tell the true story. It looked like it got snotty in the afternoon. Funny you show the picture of the sea bass. After 25 years fishing on and off we caught a few here in Pensacola last week. Go fugure on that one. We are heading out in the morning to a cold 32 degrees to start off with 30 miles out. We just need a fishing fix. Will post our trip monday. Looks like all had a great time on your trip. Gene _________________ we never know but we always go |

| Thanks for the report! I am starting to have DTs b/c we haven't been in awhile.... funky dreams & today I was eating some potato soup at McAlister's & I looked at the spoon and started thinking "man this spoon would make a nice aj jig!!" Then when we went to the Co-Op for some Super Bowl ice I wanted to run in and jump on the ice mound, reminded me of getting ice at 5am b4 heading offshore. |
